Starting with 17th May 2007, Adobe Systems will stop offering support for any version of the discontinued InterAKT products. As a result, we will not answer to new support incidents starting with May 17th, 2007. Pending support incidents will still be followed in order to be closed. The product forums will remain open and be transformed in user-to-user forums. The general forums will be made read-only and not allow new posts or comments.

The subject says it all.
I was working on a Joomla install system, that would install a licensed version of KTML4 into Joomla without the need of doing all the stuff described in your docs.
Then I discovered that KTML4 is no longer a single product, since Adobe took over Interakt.
That is sad in many ways.
First of all KTML was the best editor and many of us will not need the entire kollect package.
Second, I was hoping to send business your ways by making it easy for people to integrate KTML in Joomla, now that is not really an option, because no Joomla users will purchase kollect only for the editor.
Third, the version in kollect is version 4.1.6, my developer licensed version is only 4.1, and I do not need all the extra kollect features, so to get the latest bugs cleared I have to spend 300$ on something not needed. Is this really the only way we can upgrade to the latest version?
I do think that Adobe makes great tools, and I have a license for a few of their products including dreamweaver, but it is way overkill to start building my own CMS tools when I have something like Joomla.
So please reconsider selling KTML4 as a stand alone product, what do you have to loose?
PS. I did the Danish translation of KTML 4 + online help, but now there really is not use fore it when the prduct is discontinued.
I feel sad.

Hello Henrik,
Unfortunately, KTML has been discontinued and retired from the Kollection bundle too.
The reasons behind this decision are related to the product quality, which is far for being satisfactory. It's complex JavaScript libraries make it impossible to customize or extend in order to match various client requirements.
In addition, the product has a long list of dependencies and heavily relies on external software vendors in order to be fully functional. This makes the solution highly sensitive to any software updates on web servers and may generate numerous failures in production web sites.
Under these conditions, we have decided that the product is not ready to be released on a broader market and that it has to be retired from the Kollection bundle.
Sincerely,
Cristinel

Hi Cristinel.
Nice to hear from you again.
Well that is even more sad, but I guess there is nothing to do about it.
What about putting the editor out as an OpenSource project, this way the editor will continue to live and be developed.
I have tried plenty of other editors, and to me KTML is by far the most reliable of all editors. So even if some of your customers are having big problems with it, others are happy for KTML4.
I am still wokring on a Joomla integration, better than the one illustrated in the docs, and I will finish this implementation because no other option exists out there. No other editor is as stable as KTML4.
So even if it is hard to integrate because of the Javascript libs, it is not impossible.

Hello Henrik,
I agree that this is a sad decision, but we think is the best one could take.
In addition, we cannot release it as an open source project because it includes libraries that are used by other commercial products (the new version of Kollection, named Adobe Dreamweaver Developer Toolbox).
Best regards,
Cristinel

Right I understand.
I hope you will reconsider, and make it possible for KTML4 to continue to live, if not commercially, then at least by its supporters.
Kind Regards
Henrik.

Hello Geoff,
KTML was created about 5 years ago and derived from ActiveEdit. Initially, it was just a simple HTML control floating over the form.
However, most of the product functionality is developed in house by InterAKT and was not based on external applications.

I have read same "solution" about using two open dreamweavers... Well... I'm glad for that workarround, but now, seriourly,
what is the solution?
Thanks,
Márcio

Hello Marcio,
KTML will not be compatible with Dreamweaver CS3 nor with Adobe Dreamweaver Developer Toolbox. The product will not install on Dreamweaver CS3 and we will not release new versions.
Best regards,
Cristinel

Honestly, I feel the web design community is being stabbed in the back here. KTML has a huge following and has been extremely useful. All of our clients that we have developed content management systems for absolutely love it. What is the plan for the future. I've searched through the threads, and forgive me, there were a lot, so I may have missed it. But, what are the plans. Will there ever be another KTML product of sorts? Does Adobe / InterAKT have any plans on building a new KTML that overcomes the issues preventing it from being updated? Is Adobe just going to ignore the need for such a solution? If you can point me to some answers or have anything you can share, I would be most appreciative. At this point, I'm not sure what to think. I guess I really need something to put my mind at rest and know that there will be another KTML answer to my prayers in the future. If KTML is not ever going to be revived, I think it would be responsible of Adobe and InterAKT to say: "Hey, we understand the need and at this time do not intend to pursue filling this need. However, we would recommend checking out FCKeditor or TinyMCE or one of the alternatives. But, which ones? Are we just going to align ourselves with another KTML dissaster waiting to happen? Help us. Give us back something for everything we've given to to support InterAKT.

Well I am just another KTML user and not with Interakt.
There really is'nt any alternative.
I have tried all editors out there, and KTML is the best. The second best editor is the one from innovastudio.com, but even though I owe a license for it I never use it.
If Adobe / Interakt truely will help their KTML users they should make it opensource. This is really the only way it can continue to exist.
